HITS THE SPOT
by Rupture. July 25th, 2009
I harbor a soft spot for out-of-tune Andean love song cumbias (this is a huge category).
All I know about this one is its useless file name – 9990013.MP3 – from a GREAT Tepitos mp3 cd-r.

slightly out-of-tune cumbia andina

I admit another soft spot for cumbias about drink or drugs, slow dissolution. Social realism, if you will.
here’s Alfredo Gutierrez, singing — and yodeling! Drunk thematics: psychiatry, sick love, liver sadness. “Losing myself in liquor brought me to the dark side.”

Borracho=Alcoholic, or just like a person who is drunk?
July 28th, 2009 at 17:55
its like in English: you can be drunk, and you can be *a* drunk. in Spanish the difference splits w/ verb choice: estar borracho vs ser un borracho

ps. not only is this tune a nice Andean cumbia, the vocal production is stellar — that’s what grabbed me. I love the way her voice is drenched in reverb and multitracked. the sibilance on her ‘s’s in particular really shines, it almost sounds like the cymbal/hi-hat that gets struck.
This is a perfect example of ‘wrong’ vocal technique (too much reverb, no de-esser on the vox) being used to a really strong emotional effect, heightening the impact of the lyrics with the alienated intimacy of the soundfield she creates.

i agree with rupture here: this andino tune/esta rola andina is lovely. sadly (for me) i know nothing about production so i can’t say, but there’s a lyrical beauty in it: es innegable.
saludos, cheers.

Because that song has a lil guacharaca, doesn’t mean is CUMBIA.
Doesn’t sound like cumbia, It won’t be Cumbia anywhere in southamerica.
I guess you can lie people, telling them is Cumbia.
No por que tiene guacharaca es cumbia.
No suena como cumbia, y en cualquier lado de sudamerica nunca sera cumbia.
No mientas a la gente llamando esto cumbia por que no lo es.
P>S:
Borracho means Drunk….
Alcoholico means Alcoholic
I guess you tell the difference between drunk and alcoholic……right?
How i do to share something……how can i send u an mp3?

so if its not really cumbia, what is it? does it have its own name?
August 18th, 2009 at 07:26
IT’S CALLED HUAYNO OR WAYNO !!!
THERE ARE DIFFERENT STYLES OF HUAYNO DEPENDING ON THE REGION AND/OR RELIGIOUS FESTIVITY (carnaval).
HERE IS SOMETHING I WILL CALL FUSION CUMBIA-HUAYNO:
THEY USE QUENAS, SAMPON`A, ACORDEON AND GUACHARACA…. THIS IS A GOOD BALANCE AND LISTEN UP TO THIS!!!
